The Indian Commodity Exchange (ICEX) has officially ceased operations after SEBI revoked its recognition and approved its voluntary exit. Once seen as a promising rival to MCX and NCDEX with innovations like diamond futures, ICEX struggled with low liquidity, regulatory non-compliance, and undercapitalization. Despite temporary relief from SAT, it failed to raise funds, partly due to SEBI’s 5% ownership cap. This marks a complete closure for investors and the end of a once-ambitious exchange.
